Florida A&M University’s (FAMU) Wind Symphony will perform at the President’s Concert at Lee Hall at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2022.

Themed “Celebrating Wind Band Musical Excellence,” the annual spring event is free and open to the public.

“We want to welcome the community to celebrate the musical talents of our students who are directed by our gifted faculty. My wife, Sharon, and I always look forward to this event each spring. It promises to be a wonderfully entertaining evening,” said President Larry Robinson, Ph.D.

During the concert, the Wind Symphony will perform its first-ever commissioned band work composed by Chandler Wilson, Ph.D., graduate of FAMU, and assistant director of athletic bands at Florida State University, in honor of Julian E. White, Ph.D., retired FAMU Director of Bands. The title of this seven minute work is “Zenith” and centers around the church hymn, “How Great Thou Art,” said FAMU Director of Bands Shelby Chipman, Ph.D.

As part of the end-of-year concert series, the Symphonic Band Concert will be held Thursday, April 21, 2022, at 7:30 p.m. in Lee Hall Auditorium.

“Our band students have had an amazing year in the classroom, on the gridiron, and in the concert hall,” Chipman said.

The concerts lead up to FAMU’s Annual Day of Giving fundraising campaign, which kicks off 1887 minutes of giving from Thursday, April 21 to Friday, April 22. Visit www.1887Strikes.com for more information.
