FAMU Introduces FAMU ALERT Emergency Notification System

Florida A&M University (FAMU) will begin using FAMU ALERT on Monday, August 8, as part of its efforts to improve its emergency preparedness and response capabilities. FAMU ALERT is a specialized notification system hosted by Everbridge designed to enhance the University’s capacity for emergency communication.

“Introducing FAMU ALERT is an instrumental component in safeguarding the health and safety of students, faculty, and staff. We urge the FAMU community to learn about the new features and download the app. This helps ensure that when the next emergency arises, we are prepared to notify and protect the FAMULy,” said President Larry Robinson, Ph.D.

The Everbridge platform is a leader in incident notification systems to notify students, faculty, and staff of crucial information before, during, and after an incident. The application allows the user to receive notifications via phone calls, text messaging, e-mail, and other applications based on the user’s location on campus, with the ultimate goal to help keep the campus safe and informed during an emergency.

Vice President for Student Affairs William E. Hudson, Jr., Ph.D., said the introduction of FAMU ALERT is another step in ensuring that all stakeholders receive timely notification if and when an incident occurs.

“At FAMU, we work to be on the forefront of campus security,” Hudson added. “We are constantly looking at ways to improve campus safety, and the Everbridge emergency notification system is another cutting-edge tool in our all-hazards approach to emergency preparedness.”
