FAMU Fall Career Expo Attracts 200 Employers, 1756 Students

Hundreds of Florida A&M University students streamed into at the Al Lawson Jr. Multipurpose Center to interview for full time jobs and internships on Wednesday.

Among the 200 employers registered to recruit at the Fall 2022 Career and Internship Expo were global medical technology corporations such as Medtronic, retailers such as Target, cosmetic giant, Estee Lauder, financial institutions such as Credit Suisse, and federal, state, county and municipal government agencies seeking to hire students at a time when many vacancies are going unfilled.

“We come to this FAMU career fair every spring and fall semester because we love our FAMU students.” Michelle Maguire, an auditor at the Florida Office of the Auditor General. “We have found that FAMU is such a great resource especially for our recruiting needs in Tallahassee, but we have offices all over the state and we have FAMU students from all over the state.”

The career fair was an opportunity for the 1,756 registered students to network and speak with future employers from a variety of industries, said Bill Means, Ed.D., director of the FAMU Career and Professional Development Center.

“It’s one of the largest career expos in a long time. It went very well. Employers came; students turned out in great numbers; there was a lot of energy,” Means said. “We had 50 organizations that scheduled next day interviews with students. It shows that employers are serious about hiring our students.”

Recruiting booths occupied the first and second floors of the Lawson Center. Sixty employers signed up for the Fall 2022 Virtual Career and Internship Expo that took place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, said Means.

One FAMU student, Reginald Johnson said he is thankful for the opportunity that the University is providing.

“FAMU is offering a lot of opportunities that we wouldn’t be able to find all in the same place anywhere else,” Johnson said. “FAMU has given me a lot since I’ve been here and has introduced me to a lot of different people, a lot of different companies, opportunities, and I’m grateful for that.”
