Project Overview

Florida A&M University began a classification and compensation study at the end of 2022. The University sought this study out to review how our faculty and staff positions compare to external market data. This engagement covered both teaching faculty, A&P, and USPS positions.

Phase One:
Phase Two:
  • Job Structure Review – we reviewed the current state of our job descriptions and are considering potential job families and level guidelines that will assist in developing a new job classification structure.

Phase Three:
  • Competitive Assessment – we developed a comparison market to obtain base salary market data from (for staff positions, market data from organizations outside of higher education were considered as well). Market data collection is an iterative process which takes many months. Positions are matched to market roles based on actual job content (or teaching discipline/rank) not job title.

Phase Four:
  • Salary Structure Development – using the market data collected in phase three ranges were developed to create a market competitive salary structure for teaching faculty, A&P, and USPS staff.

Phase Five:
  • Implementation – the final phase of the study involves implementing the new structures developed in phase four. The timeline is dependent on budget affordability and the internal timeline of the university.
