Office of Communications

As a unit of the Office of the President, the Office of Communications is the first and official source of news and information about the University. Our mission is to represent and promote the University and its faculty, students and programs to a variety of constituents, including employees, alumni, media, government officials, businesses, students, parents and other stakeholders.

The Role of the Office of Communications

The Office of Communications provides leadership and support to the University in strategic communications, media relations, publications, marketing, special events, graphic design, and photography. On a daily basis, we perform the following tasks:

  • Direct the University’s marketing and branding efforts.
  • Oversee the distribution of information to the media.
  • Manage the content and design of the front page of FAMU’s website.
  • Manage the FAMU blogspot, FAMU Facebook and FAMU YouTube.
  • Publish the A&M Magazine, FAMU e-newsletter, and the BOT Report.
  • Review and approve advertising, video, and publications distributed to an external audience.
  • Provide photography and graphic design services.
  • Design and develop recruitment materials.

Our Team

The Office of Communications includes media relations, publications, marketing, special events, photography and graphic design. The office is located in Suite 200 Lee Hall, 1601 S.Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. 

The Office of Media Relations
Lights, Camera, Action!

A major force in positively enhancing the public image of FAMU, both in the Tallahassee and beyond, largely through interaction with the news media. Also where faculty, staff and students can submit news about their accomplishments and achievements.

The Office of Publications
Visually Stunning!

Creates attractive, high quality communications that reflect the University’s special character and commitment to excellence. Oversees the development of the University’s General Catalog in conjunction with the Office of Academic Affairs.

The Office of Marketing
Spread The Word!

Oversees creative concepts and designs for ads, Internet, brochures, billboards, trade shows, videos, newsletters and all other collateral material that promotes the overall image of the University and its various schools and colleges.

The Special Events Office
Bring Plans To Life!

Responsible for the planning, coordination and execution of events sponsored by the Office of the President, University Relations and Communications. Also serves as a resource to the entire University, providing expertise and guidance in the planning and implementation of events hosted by individual schools, colleges and departments.

Photographic Services Office
Camera Ready!

Photographs teaching, research, and service to accompany news stories. Includes coverage of university activities and events for campus offices and publications. Our services also include a digital stock photo library encompassing all aspects of campus life.

Graphic Design
Creativity Meets Reality!

At FAMU, the graphic design process is essential to the Office of Communications strategy for brand identity and the page layout of major magazines, recruitment materials, advertisements, etc. intended for public viewing.
