FAMU ERM in the Community
Implementation and enhancements to ERM programs are has become a focus of higher education institutions and government agencies over the last few years. As FAMU works to enhance its ERM program it has been active in the ERM community sharing and receiving best practice information and activities.
Conferences
The FAMU ERM Program has been invited to speak on ERM best practices at national and international conferences.
On September 10, 2022, Deidre Melton, FAMU’s Chief Risk Officer, and Joseph Maleszewski, FAMU’s Chief Audit Executive, presented a session titled, “Practical Plans for Implementing the COSO ERM Model” at 2022 AGA Government Training Event, hosted by the Association of Government Accountants
On June 2, 2022, Deidre Melton, FAMU’s Chief Risk Officer, presented a session titled, “Audit, Compliance and Risk Management: A Collaborative Approach to Managing Enterprise-wide Risks” at the 1st HBCU Risk Management Conference.
On September 15, 2022, Deidre Melton, FAMU’s Chief Risk Officer, will be presenting a session titled, “Practical Plans for Implementing COSO ERM
Professional Organizations
FAMU’s Chief Risk Officer and ERM Coordinator regularly network with members of professional organizations within higher education to obtain best practices, identify emerging risk areas in higher education, and increase overall knowledge on ERM.
ACUA
Association of College and University Auditors (ACUA). FAMU meets monthly with ERM program leaders from Oregon State University, University of Montana, and Wayne State University to share ERM best practices, tools, and challenges.
URMIA
University Risk Management and Insurance Association (URMIA). The URMIA ERM Roundtable provides a supportive and collaborative environment for chief risk officers as well as others who may not have that title but oversee the ERM program in their higher education organization.
