Advanced Practice Nurses with Master’s or Doctoral degrees - Application for a Post-master’s
Certificate (PMC)
The MSN Graduate School of Nursing may award up to 22 credit hours to Advanced Practice Nurses (APN) with master’s or doctoral degrees
seeking a Post master’s Certificate (PMC). Please note that MSN-level courses that
have been completed must satisfy the following requirements:
- Courses credited must be taken within five years of application to the PMC certificate program at the FAMU School of Nursing.
- The applicant must have a grade of B and above in the courses.
- The APN graduate applicant must complete all the Population Foci/Role Courses at FAMU
with 750 clinical hours.
Non-Advanced Practice Nurses with Master’s or Doctoral degrees- Application for a
post-master Certificate (PMC)
The MSN Graduate School of Nursing may award a maximum of six credit hours to non-advanced Practice Nurses (APN) with master’s or doctoral degrees
seeking a Post master’s Certificate (PMC); please note that MSN level courses that
have been completed must satisfy the following requirements:
- Courses credited must be taken within five years of application to the PMC certificate program at the FAMU School of Nursing.
- The non-APN graduate applicant must have a grade of B and above in the courses.
- The non-APN graduate applicant must complete 36 credit hours at FAMU School of Nursing.
- The non-APN graduate applicant must complete all the Population Foci/Role Courses
at FAMU with 750 Clinical hours.
MSN Transfer Applicants
The MSN Graduate School of Nursing may award a maximum of six credit hours to applicants who complete MSN courses without completing the MSN degree at an ACEN,
CCNE, or CNEA-accredited nursing school. Please note that MSN courses that have been
completed must satisfy the following requirements:
- Courses credited must be taken within five years of application to the master’s Program
at the FAMU School of Nursing.
- The MSN transfer applicant must have a grade of B and above in the courses.
- The MSN applicant must complete at least 36 credit hours depending on the accepted courses from their Transfer Credit application in the FAMU School of Nursing.
- The APN graduate applicant must complete all the Population Foci/Role Courses at FAMU
with 750 Clinical hours.
***MSN coursework completed at another accredited program may also be evaluated case-by-case
by the SON.
MSN (Master of Science in Nursing) Nurse Practitioner Program
TRANSFER CREDIT PROCEDURE
- The Director of Graduate Programs must receive a written request for the acceptance
of transfer credits within 14 calendar days of accepting admission to FAMU School of Nursing. The course syllabus and official transcripts from the applicant’s school should be submitted along with the written request.
- An applicant is notified in writing once transfer credit hours have been approved by the School of Nursing Associate
Dean, Program Director, or Specialty Track Coordinator(s) for Graduate Programs. The
School of Nursing provides MSN applicants and MSN program advisors with a Transfer Credit Approval Form that indicates the number of approved transfer credit hours that the school will
accept.
- After the approval of the Transfer Credit Approval Form, students must meet with their Graduate Program Academic Advisor to redesign their
program of study.
- The transfer credit form must be completed by the student, and approvals must be obtained
from the graduate program and the school of nursing and then by the Graduate Dean
of the school of nursing or their designee no later than the end of the second semester that the student is in the program.
