The Florida A&M University School of Nursing master’s program provides a post-master certificate (PMC) program for non-nurse practitioner nursing master’s, doctoral graduates, and Advanced Practice Nurses (APN) master’s or doctoral graduates who want to become Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioners (AGPCNP) or Women Health Nurse Practitioners (WHNP).
Non-nurse practitioner graduates hold master’s or doctoral degrees in a non-nurse practitioner nursing role such as nursing education, nursing executive, nursing informatics, or nursing administration. APN graduate applicants are those who have master’s or doctoral degrees in nursing with national certification as a clinical nurse specialist (CNS), certified nurse midwife (CNM), certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA), or Nurse Practitioner (NP) in other specialties such as family, mental health, pediatric nurse practitioner or neonatal nurse practitioner.
For APN prepared master's graduate applicants, up to 22 credits may be awarded based on courses, grades and recency of the courses taken. The courses credited are those taken within the past five (5) years of admission and grade of B and above.
A total of six (6) credit hours will be awarded for non-APN master's graduate applicants and they must complete 36 credits at FAMU. A grade of B or above is required for all courses. Non-APN coursework may also be evaluated by the SON. The courses credited are those taken within the past five (5) years of admission. Both non-nurse practitioner nursing and APN master’s graduate applicants must complete all of the Population Foci/Role Core courses at FAMU with 750 clinical hours.
