CeDAR Housing Accommodations

.
.

Housing accommodations are for environmental access barriers presented by the student’s disability. Accommodation requests based on personal preferences, such as a low-distraction environment, specific room or roommate assignment, or allergen-free housing, are not reasonable and cannot be honored.

Registation Followup

Once a student has registered with CeDAR in the AIM portal and uploaded the completed housing accommodation request form,

✔️ a member of the CeDAR staff will contact the student either to make an appointment to discuss the request or to notify the student that the documentation provided by the qualified professional on the housing accommodation form is insufficient.

✔️
The student will be notified in writing if their housing accommodation request has been approved or denied. The letter will also note if the approval is permanent or temporary.

✔️ If temporary, a new housing accommodation form would need to be submitted by the date indicated in the letter. If permanent, the student will not have to submit a new housing accommodation request form while living on campus.

✔️ All students will still need to complete a housing application according to the university housing procedures.

If the student’s housing accommodation request is approved,

✔️ CeDAR will notify the university housing department of the approved accommodation. A staff member in housing will determine if there is a room available to meet the requested accommodation.

✔️
If a room is unavailable, the student will be placed on a waitlist managed by the 'University Housing Department'.

If the request for a housing accommodation is denied or there is a disagreement with the decision,

✔️ the student may appeal the denial consistent with the CeDAR grievance policy. Within 15 working days from date of the housing accommodation request decision notice, the student should begin the appeals process with the CeDAR staff member who denied their request for the housing accommodation.

✔️
The student must fill out the appeal form and provide evidence to support their appeal. The student may attach supplemental supporting documentation. The student will be asked to meet with the CeDAR staff member within 14 working days of the complaint.

✔️ If the student is not satisfied with the resolution or decision of the grievance with the CeDAR staff member, they may take the written appeal and supporting documentation to the CeDAR Director. The CeDAR Director will render a written decision within 10 working days of the filing of the appeal.

✔️ At any time in the process, if the student is still not in agreement with the decision regarding their housing accommodation request, they may appeal the decision to the FAMU 'Office of Equal Opportunity Programs'.

Deadlines

✔️ There are deadlines for housing accommodation requests which should be met to increase the probability of an available room. Requests submitted after the deadlines reduce the availability of rooms that would meet the requested accommodation.

✔️
Housing accommodation requests could take two weeks or more to process, therefore, it is important to submit the housing accommodation request form by the deadlines.
