Dr. Jean is an Assistant Professor of Geospatial and Environmental Analysis and the Faculty Director of the Sustainability Institute at the School of the Environment, Florida A&M University (FAMU) in Tallahassee, FL. He teaches courses in Geospatial and Environmental Analysis and Remote Sensing of the Environment to both graduate and undergraduate students.
Before joining FAMU, Dr. Jean worked as a research analyst and fellow in Department of Defense (DoD) and Intelligence Community (IC) labs, where he contributed to projects focused on environmental data analysis, modeling, and mapping. His research focuses on the impacts of climatic and atmospheric changes on ecosystem services, with an emphasis on remote sensing, geospatial analysis, and the development of computational models for environmental monitoring.
At the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), Dr. Jean contributes to advancing the SCuBA (Satellite Computed Bathymetry Assessment) algorithm to detect large submerged objects like cetaceans and man-made structures in nearshore environments. He also served as an in-residence visiting scientist with the Office of Naval Research at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Newport Division, where he studied ice sheet dynamics in the Arctic and laser propagation.
