Maureen Tartaglione teaches public relations at FAMU’s School of Journalism and Graphic
Communication, joining in August 2024 after a 30-year career in public relations,
consulting, and academia. She most recently worked at Cox Communications for 13 years,
where she served as the manager of government and public affairs for the East Region,
overseeing lobbying efforts, franchise negotiations, and regulatory compliance. She
also managed a $2.5 million community outreach program to support Cox’s public relations
and corporate social responsibility goals.
Before Cox, Tartaglione held various roles at the University of Florida, including
speechwriter and community relations liaison for the President’s Office, adjunct professor,
and staff member in government affairs. She also led her consultancy, Tartaglione
and Associates LLC, advising on redistricting, public policy campaigns, and non-profit
fundraising strategies.
Tartaglione has served on numerous non-profit boards and was a frequent moderator
for political forums. She holds a BS in Public Relations (with Highest Honors) and
an MA in Mass Communication, and has co-authored published chapters on Florida politics.
She’s won multiple awards, including the Fierce Award for women in business (2017),
the Association of Cable Communicators Beacon Award (2014), and the Florida Cable
and Telecommunication Association’s Don E. Reed Award (2015). Additionally, she has
received teaching awards for her work at the University of Florida.
