Professor Fadia Patterson is an award-winning multimedia journalist who joined the Florida A&M University School of Journalism & Graphic Communication in 2021. She is a graduate of Florida State University and Middle Tennessee State University, where her career in academia began while she pursued a master’s degree.
Patterson started her career in broadcast journalism in South Florida and has since worked for television stations in Tennessee, Indiana, Kentucky, New York, and currently, Tampa. During her time in Buffalo, New York, she covered stories focusing on the protests against the death of George Floyd and firefighters who developed cancer while on the job. Her storytelling led to receiving award nominations and an Associated Press Award.
In 2022, Patterson’s live coverage of Hurricane Ian was featured on multiple outlets, including the “Sherri Shepherd Show.” Shepherd commended Fadia’s work ethic and dedication to her community. Also known as the “One Woman Bandit,” Patterson writes her own aptly named blog entitled “One Woman Bandit,” which serves as a journal for her adventures as a multimedia journalist.
Additionally, she is the host of the podcast “Creole Narratives,” which covers stories about the Haitian, Caribbean, and Afro Latin diaspora. As an active member of the National Association of Black Journalists and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, Patterson has served on the national and local levels to mentor young journalists of color. She is a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated.
