Dr. Ukamaka Diké Smith is an Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice and the Interprofessional
Education Director for the College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Institute
of Public Health at Florida A&M University. Born in Boston, Massachusetts and raised
in Miami, FL, Dr. Smith joined the college in 2018. Dr. Smith’s professional areas
of interest include infectious disease-related cancer research, health equity, antimicrobial
stewardship, HIV/AIDS, preventing the spread of communicable diseases, and diabetes
care.
Dr. Smith received her Doctor in Pharmacy degree from Florida A&M University. She
then completed a PGY-1 residency at Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare (TMH) in Tallahassee,
FL and received her Master’s in Business Administration with a concentration in Health
Services Management from Keiser University. Prior to her appointment at Florida A&M
University, Dr. Smith served in a dual role as the Post-Operative Care Clinical Pharmacist
and Infectious Disease/Antimicrobial Stewardship Pharmacist at TMH.
Dr. Smith is a member of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, American
Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, American Pharmacists Association, Society of
Infectious Diseases Pharmacists, and more. She is also active in the Tallahassee community
and a proud member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. In her free time, Dr. Smith enjoys
fishing, traveling, volunteering, and spending time with her family. Dr. Smith believes
in being a friend to man and truly lives by the motto “Service is the rent we pay
for the space we occupy”.
