Dr. Askal Ali, a holder of a Ph.D. in Health Outcomes Research and Pharmacoeconomics
from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU), serves as an Associate
Professor in the field of Economic, Social, and Administrative Pharmacy (ESAP) at
FAMU. Her academic journey includes a B.A. from Bahir-Dar University and an M.A. from
Eastern Illinois University, both in Economics. Dr. Ali joined the FAMU College of
Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences Institute of Public Health (CoPPS, IPH) faculty
in 2016. Within her capacity as an educator, Dr. Ali has delivered courses encompassing
various levels, undergraduate, professional, and graduate, focusing on topics such
as the economic evaluation of pharmaceuticals, advanced pharmacoeconomics, comparative
effectiveness research, pharmacoepidemiology, and advanced research. Her teaching
excellence has been recognized through the College Teacher of the Year awards, bestowed
upon her in both 2017 and 2023. Over her tenure at FAMU, spanning seven years, Dr.
Ali has been an influential mentor for Ph.D., Master's, undergraduate, and high school
students. Beyond her educational roles, she has actively engaged with the university
community, contributing her expertise as a member of committees like Assessment, Policy
and Procedures, Professional Learners Conduct, and Community Engagement, all within
the CoPPS, IPH.
Dr. Ali's research endeavors encompass a range of critical areas, including cancer
screening and treatment, health disparities, comparative effectiveness research, pharmacoeconomics/health
econometrics, decision modeling, evidence synthesis (including systematic reviews
and meta-analyses), and observational data analysis. Her contributions have materialized
in numerous peer-reviewed publications and successful grant acquisitions as both Principal
Investigator and Co-Investigator. Her impact extends beyond the academic realm, as
she has participated in NIH grant review committees and assumed roles in various professional
organizations, lending her expertise to different ad hoc committees. Moreover, Dr.
Ali has assumed editorial responsibilities as a guest editor for the Journal of Healthcare
and serves as a reviewer for multiple esteemed peer-reviewed journals.
