About Me

I am a Professor at FAMU, Institute of Public Health and have been here for over 15 years from 2008-2023. I also taught at Missouri State University in their public health program 2007-2008. I served as an environmental health consultant providing toxicology consultation for chemical, pesticide and preparedness issues related to chemical exposures for the Florida Department of Health for 5 years from 2002 to 2007. I worked with other agencies such as Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services and Department of Environmental Protection. I have 15 years of experience in all areas of the clinical lab. I was also a commander at the rank of Captain of a blood collection detachment in the army reserves at Fort Harrison in Indianapolis. I have advised more than 100 MPH students in environmental health, occupational health, and environmental epidemiology for their master’s degree Research Projects. I have served on the dissertation committee for two epidemiology doctoral students with an emphasis in environmental epidemiology related to malaria and diabetes genomics. My research interests are related to the development of a toxicology curriculum to train community leaders and trainers for a grant from the Agency for Toxic Substances Disease Registry, Racial and Ethnic Environmental Approaches to Health (REEACH) related to a Superfund Ash Site. I have served on several toxicology committees including Florida, Pesticide Review Evaluation Committee (PREC) (2003-2006), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Acute Exposure Guideline Levels (AEGL) (2006-2012) and Federal State Risk Assessment Committee (FSTRAC) (2006-2017 I have over 30 peer-reviewed publications, published abstracts, and three book chapters related to mercury, pesticide exposure and public health in the areas of metal toxicity, pesticide toxicity and chemical exposure, community training and developing a toxicology curriculum and a COVID-19 curriculum.
