Dr. Naquita Jackson Nelson is an Assistant Professor at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical
University School of Nursing. With a passion for education, she works diligently to
prepare the next generation of registered and advanced practice nurses through theory,
clinical instruction, organizational involvement, professional development, and leadership.
An avid women’s health advocate, she is also a Board Certified Women’s Health Nurse
Practitioner and has a combined work experience of 30 years in the nursing profession.
She also served as Deputy Consultant for Women’s Health Nurse Practitioners for the
United States Air Force and retired as a Chief Nurse Executive after 22 years of service.
Her clinical practice and academic education interests are women’s health, the impact
of cervical cancer surveillance on health outcomes, and promoting excellence in nursing
education for minorities.
Dr. Nelson is a member of several professional organizations, including the National
Association of Nurse Practitioners in Women’s Health, the American Nurses Association,
the Florida Nurses Association, the Association of Black Nursing Faculty Foundation,
Tallahassee Area Council of Advanced Practice Nurses, Chi Eta Phi Professional Nursing
Sorority, and Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society.
She has also served and continues to serve in various roles at the University. She
is a past Secretary for the University’s Faculty Senate, a member of the University
Faculty Senate Curriculum Committee, and serves in an advisory role for the FAMU Student
Nurses’ Association, Rho Kappa Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society,
and Chi Phi Beta Chapter of Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc.
