Dr. Lisa H. Gardner is a tenured Associate Professor and Associate Dean for Graduate Programs in the School of Nursing at Florida Agriculture and Mechanical University (FAMU). She is also a nationally certified Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) with a Family Nurse Practitioner certification. Dr. Gardner’s educational career has been devoted to undergraduate baccalaureate and graduates nursing education, and she remains committed to educating nursing students to become excellent healthcare providers. Her practice and teaching are evidence-based and focused on public & community health, minority populations, and student health. Dr. Gardner provides innovative teaching strategies to foster student-centered learning and teaching excellence in traditional and online education.
Dr. Gardner has served on several University and School of Nursing (SON) committees to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes. She was instrumental in developing the first Nuventive course assessment module utilizing the University Nuventive Program Assessment platform. Dr. Gardner is a leader in developing an assessment culture to enhance the overall program goal and outcome of student success and certification exam scores.
Dr. Gardner’s passion is promoting healthy lifestyle behaviors and illness prevention. Her research interest is Adolescent Male and Female Sexual Health, and she has published several articles on the sexual practices of adolescents and young adults. Dr. Gardner is also committed to helping the community and is involved in several organizations. She is a member of the Tallahassee Council of Advanced Practice Nurses (CAPN) and is the 2019-2021 Board Secretary. She is also a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), Sigma Theta Tau International - Rho Kappa Chapter, Florida Nurse Practitioner Network (FNPN), Delta Epsilon Iota Academic Honor Society, and an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. - Chi Upsilon Omega Chapter.
