About Me


Duane is an Adjunct Instructor of Nursing at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University.  He is a graduate of St. Mary’s School of Nursing (Registered Nurse), Bellarmine University (BSN and MSN – Advanced Community Health Nursing with a minor in Nursing Administration), and Duquesne University (Certificate in Transcultural Nursing). Currently he serves as the Nurse Administrator/Director, RN Program at New River Community and Technical College, in Lewisburg, West Virginia.  Duane most recently was the charge nurse at River Park Hospital a private psychiatric hospital in Huntington, West Virginia.  Prior to that, he was the Department Chair of Nursing, Director of the RN to BSN Program and Director of the Associate Degree Program and he taught Mental Health Nursing, Leadership/Management, NCLEX test review in the BSN program at the University of Charleston in Charleston, West Virginia.  Recently Duane has been the CEO/Executive Director for the West Virginia Center for Nursing from January 2006 to June 2013.  At the Center for Nursing he developed projects and programs to address the nursing shortage in West Virginia.  Prior to this he has held the following positions in a variety of settings, nursing faculty, nurse manager, house supervisor, and Director of Nurses.  His nursing experience has been in the acute care setting, psychiatric setting, home health, case management/insurance, rehabilitation, and the public health department.  He has developed and implemented Diploma, RN-BSN, and Associate Degree programs

He is a graduate of the West Virginia Nursing Leadership Institute, a Helene Fulde Rural Health Nurse Fellow (Binghamton University), a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Executive Nurse Fellow, a Problem Based Learning Fellow (University of Delaware), has earned a Quality Matters - Online Teaching Certificate, and attended The Online Classroom: Strategies for Higher Education Teaching and Learning, Harvard Graduate School of Education 2021.
