Veronica Adams Yon is an associate professor and chair of the Department of English and Modern Languages at Florida A&M University. She is also the immediate past president of Alpha Kappa Mu (AKM) National Honor Society, an academic organization for qualifying junior, senior, and graduate scholars in all disciplines.
Yon received a bachelor’s degree (magna cum laude) in English from Spelman College and masters and doctoral degrees in English (with a major in African American literature and a minor in Women’s literature and gender studies) from Florida State University.
Since joining FAMU in 1998, she has held several leadership positions, including composition studies director, interim department chair, Writing Resource Center (WRC) director, tutorial support services coordinator, and online education coordinator for the College of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities. Credited with securing approximately $1.5 million in Title III grants to open and operate the WRC, she has supervised and mentored student tutors and presented numerous writing workshops. As the Kappa Iota (FAMU) chapter advisor for AKM, she has guided hundreds of students through society inductions, community service projects, scholarship and graduate school applications, and research presentations.
