About Me


Dr. Merlin R. Langley is a tenured Associate Professor in the Department of Social Work and Director of the Division of Interdisciplinary Studies at Florida A&M University (FAMU). Dr. Langley served as chairperson of the Department of Social Work from 2008-2011. His research interests are in the areas of leadership in higher education, professional identity development of African Americans and women, and the examination of cultural and personality factors that contribute to mental health and health outcome disparities among diverse ethnic groups. Dr. Langley has conducted research and published and presented scholarly papers in these areas. He received the Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in clinical psychology with a minor in social work from Florida State University, a postgraduate certificate in counseling psychology from Northeastern University, an Ed.M. in Counseling and Guidance from Boston University, and a B.A. degree in psychology from the City University of New York - The City College. Dr. Langley also completed two post-doctoral psychology fellowships at Harvard. He is also an alumnus of the Florida State University Institute for Academic Leadership and the Management Development Program at Harvard Graduate School of Education.
