About Me

Professor Small attained a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre from Florida A&M University and a Master of Fine Arts in Acting from the University of Florida. She is a dedicated professor, wife, mother, accomplished actor, director, and cake artist.

Small possesses over 25 years of acting experience and 15 years of teaching experience in the field of theatre. Before assuming a professorship at FAMU, she honed her craft as a working actor in Atlanta and New York before returning to Tallahassee, FL, to impart her knowledge of theatre and arts infusion in primary education. Though Small’s expertise lies in performance, she takes particular pleasure in creating a realistic but safe and engaging space for students to collaborate and explore the art of theatre. She also enjoys directing, serving as the director and advisor for The FAMU Connection, and creating memorable professional development opportunities.

Aside from academia, most recently, Small showcased her culinary talents and appeared on the Food Network’s Season 4, Holiday Wars, competing as a baker with her team, Best in Snow. She also appeared as the lead in a short film, Bookworm (2024), produced by Florida State’s School of Film.
