Dr. Rufus Ellis, Jr. epitomizes the qualities of an exemplary educator.  He has attained prominence in his profession with demonstrated extraordinary success, innovation and leadership. An experienced veteran educator with an impressive repertoire of achievements in his profession and duly recognized for his prestigious work.

Dr. Ellis has been an active member of several Research Institutes including The Institute for the Transformation of Learning, Marquette University, Milwaukee WI; Leadership for Education Entrepreneurs, Arizona State University, Phoenix, AZ; Institute for Lifelong Learning and Community Education, Harvard University, Cambridge, MA,  and The Oxford Roundtable, Harris Manchester College, Oxford, England.

A celebrated author and lecturer, Dr. Ellis has a remarkable trail of publications and presentations including the customization of three textbooks: contributing author of two books and featured in several conference proceedings locally, nationally and internationally.

Dr. Ellis is also known for his prodigious talent for generating external competitive funds.  He has secured over a billion dollars in external funding to support various education entities.

Dr. Ellis’ personal, academic and career experience has been enhanced by his international travel to more than 29 countries.

Academic Accomplishments


Dr. Ellis hosts a trail of awards and recognitions.  He assisted with the crafting of the Public Charter Schools Subsection of the Federal Education Act, “No Child Left Behind”, subsequently attending the signing ceremony and had the pleasure of meeting former President George W. Bush along with U.S. Senator Edward M. “Ted” Kennedy and Georgia Governor Roy Barnes. Named Princeton University Woodrow Wilson Fellow, 1985; Received the 1997 NAACP Black Achievers Award;  2002 Recipient of the Honorable George W. Bush Public Charter Schools President’s Award;  2008 Harris-Manchester College of Oxford University Roundtable Inductee;  2011 Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University Teacher of the Year; 2016 Florida A&M University College of Education Gallery of Distinction Inductee; named Outstanding Young Men of America, 1985; Named Who’s Who in American Education, 1988; 2001 Florida Department of Education Pioneer Award; 2002 Florida Charter Schools Consortium Excellence in Education Award; 2006 Educational Entrepreneurs Leadership Award; 2008 Harvard University Recognition for Outstanding Student Achieve Award; 2009 State of Florida School Choice Campion Award; and numerous other awards and recognitions.
