FAMU has Delayed Start on Sunday Due to Severe Weather

Severe Weather Update 
A significant severe weather outbreak is expected Saturday night into Sunday morning. A Moderate Risk (Level 4 of 5) remains for parts of the Tallahassee area. Additionally, the National Weather Service (NWS) latest guidance has indicated most portions of the state with the possibility of experiencing various forms of severe weather throughout the day tomorrow as squall lines of thunderstorms pass through the state.
⚠️ Threats may Include:
🌪️ Significant tornadoes
💨 Damaging or destructive winds
🌨️ Large hail
Florida A & M University will operate at a delayed start of 10 a.m. on Sunday, March 16. All essential personnel should contact their supervisors for further information. 
 
Sunday dining services on the Tallahassee Campus will be adjusted to noon to 7:30 p.m. at Top Café.
Stay informed and be prepared. Please monitor Tallahassee NWS for updates through Sunday morning.
Please exercise extreme caution when traveling to and from campus and adhere to notifications and guidance from emergency personnel.

Severe Weather Alert 

Per the Tallahassee National Weather Service (NWS), the severe weather outlook for this weekend has been upgraded to a Moderate Risk (Level 4 of 5) for parts of our area. A significant severe weather outbreak is expected Saturday night into Sunday morning.

Sunday dining services on the Tallahassee Campus will be adjusted to noon to 7:30 p.m. at Top Café.

Threats may Include: Significant tornadoes, damaging or destructive winds and large hail.

Stay informed and be prepared. Please monitor Tallahassee NWS for updates through Sunday morning.

FAMU Announces Normal Campus Operations, Engineering Delay for Wednesday

Tallahassee, Fla. – Florida A&M University has been actively monitoring the potential for severe weather as a squall line of thunderstorms pass through our area tonight and into Wednesday morning. At this time, the University will maintain normal operations for Wednesday, March 5th. The FAMU-FSU College of Engineering will delay opening until 9 am ET.

Please note that forecasts are subject to change, and we encourage everyone to remain vigilant to monitor updates from the National Weather Service and local authorities.

FAMU Returns to Normal Operations on Monday, Jan. 27

Tallahassee, Fla. – Florida A&M University (FAMU) will return to normal operations on all campuses on Monday, Jan. 27, 2025.  

Students, faculty, and staff should exercise caution during the early morning hours as roadways and sidewalks may accumulate ice overnight.

FAMU Campuses to Remain Closed on Friday, Jan. 24

Tallahassee, Fla. – Due to the hazardous road conditions from Winter Storm Enzo, Florida A&M University (FAMU) will remain closed on Friday, Jan. 24, 2025. Normal operations will resume on Monday, Jan. 27, pending any further inclement weather.
Additional details regarding campus operations on Friday, Jan. 24 are as follows:
  • The Tallahassee campus, Jacksonville campus, the ERCCD, the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering, FAMU Developmental Research School (DRS), Crestview Peaden Campus, and Quincy Extension Farm will be closed for all students, faculty, staff, and non-essential personnel.
  • The Café and the Hub on the main campus will be open for residents and meal plan holders from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. this Friday through Sunday.
  • FAMU Campus Tours and the Registered Student Organizational Fair will be canceled.
  • The College of Law Orlando, Tampa, Brooksville Farm, and Miami campuses will remain open and operate as normal.
Please exercise caution and avoid travel on the roads and sidewalks, which may accumulate ice overnight and during the early morning hours.

FAMU Food Services Will Open from 2 – 6 p.m. on Thursday

The Cafe and the Hub will be open on Thursday, Jan. 23, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. for campus residents and meal plan holders.
 
The Venom Shuttle will remain offline due to the icy road conditions.
 
University officials continue to monitor weather developments closely. Residents are asked to stay weather aware and use extreme caution, particularly when traveling outdoors.

  • If you must travel, ensure your vehicle is winterized with proper antifreeze, and check that your tires are properly inflated and have adequate tread.
  • Keep cold weather gear in your vehicle, including warm clothing and blankets.
  • Always have extra supplies in case of emergency, such as a flashlight, glass scraper, shovel, traction aids, food, water, phone charger, and a first aid kit.
  • Inform someone of your travel route, and when you leave and arrive.
  • In severe conditions, it’s safer to call 911 for help rather than try to walk in extreme temperatures.

FAMU Campuses Impacted by Winter Storm Enzo to Remain Closed on Jan. 23

Tallahassee, Fla. – Due to the hazardous road conditions from Winter Storm Enzo, Florida A&M University (FAMU) will remain closed on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2025. We expect to return to normal operations on most campuses on Friday and will continue to monitor the conditions at the Crestview campus. Please stay off the roads for your safety and the safety of emergency responders.

FAMU will close the following campuses on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2025:

  • Tallahassee campus, Jacksonville Campus, the ERCCD, the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering, FAMU Developmental Research School (DRS), Crestview Peaden Campus, and Quincy Extension Farm will be closed for all students, faculty, staff and non-essential personnel.

Icy conditions persist following the overnight winter precipitation and frigid temperatures. The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Cold Warning for the area, which means weather conditions may cause roadways to refreeze Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

FAMU Main Campus Advisory for Jan. 22

Due to the inclement weather conditions from Winter Storm Enzo, the Cafe and the Hub will not open at 12:00 p.m. today. The Venom Shuttle will be down until road conditions improve. Please standby for further instructions.

Important Reminders for FAMU Housing Residents:

Housing Operations:

  • The University and the central housing office will be closed on Wednesday.
  • All residential facility/apartment desks will operate as normal.
  • Contact the front desk or your RA with any questions or concerns.
  • In the event of an emergency, call FAMU PD at 850-599-3256 or 911.
  • Report any maintenance concerns to housingmaintenance@famu.edu.
  • Pay attention to your residential facilities' internal social media group.

Staying Safe Indoors:

  • In extreme weather, monitor forecasts and stay indoors unless travel is absolutely necessary.
  • If you need to leave your residence, wear multiple layers of clothing to stay warm.
  • Use hats, scarves, gloves, and warm socks to protect your head, neck, hands, and feet.
  • Stay dry. Damp clothing can dangerously lower your body temperature.
  • Wet or frozen streets and sidewalks increase the need for caution. Allow extra time and pay close attention to your surroundings when walking or driving.
  • Ensure your phone is fully charged.
  • In severe weather, it’s safer to call 911 for assistance rather than attempt to walk in hazardous conditions.

Traveling:

  • If you must travel, ensure your vehicle is winterized with proper antifreeze, and check that your tires are properly inflated and have adequate tread.

  • Keep the heat on in campus buildings and ensure all windows are sealed.

  • Report any heating issues immediately to Housing staff or Maintenance.
  • Do not prop open exterior doors.

FAMU to Close the Jacksonville Campus on Jan. 22 in Response to Winter Storm Enzo

Tallahassee, Fla. – Due to expected inclement weather conditions from Winter Storm Enzo, Florida A&M University (FAMU) will add the Jacksonville campus to the list of campuses that will be closed on Jan. 22.
FAMU will close the following campuses on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2025:
  • Tallahassee campus, Jacksonville Campus, the ERCCD, the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering, FAMU Developmental Research School (DRS), Crestview Peaden Campus, and Quincy Extension Farm will be closed for all students, faculty, staff and non-essential personnel.
  • The FAMU Career Expo is canceled.

FAMU to Close Jan. 21-22 Ahead of Winter Storm Enzo

Tallahassee, Fla. – Due to expected inclement weather conditions from Winter Storm Enzo, Florida A&M University (FAMU) will be closed Jan. 21-22 for all students, faculty, staff and non-essential personnel on the Tallahassee, Quincy, and Crestview campuses for the entire day. This measure is being taken to ensure the safety and well-being of our community.
 
Additional details for Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025 are listed as follows:
  • Main campus food services will be open fron 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Venom Shuttle will operate from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., pending road conditions.
  • The Educational Research Center for Child Development (ERCCD) and FAMU Developmental Research School (DRS) will be closed and athletic events will be cancelled.     
  • The Jacksonville, College of Law Orlando, Tampa, Brooksville Farm, and Miami campuses will remain open on Tuesday and operate as normal, unless the forecast changes, and we will adjust accordingly.
FAMU will close the following campuses on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2025:
  • Tallahassee campus, the ERCCD, the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering, FAMU Developmental Research School (DRS), Crestview Peaden Campus, and Quincy Extension Farm will be closed for all students, faculty, staff and non-essential personnel.
  • In the event that we can not open safely for Food services, pre-packaged meals will be prepared and delivered to the residence halls on Tuesday afternoon for Wednesday.
  • The FAMU Career Expo will be canceled.
Food and Shuttle Operations for Jan 21-24
Due to expected inclement weather conditions from Winter Storm Enzo, the Cafe and the Hub will operate on the following schedule:
 
Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025
The Cafe and the Hub will operate from 11:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
A meal will be delivered to the residence halls on Tuesday for Wednesday morning 
 
Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2025
The Cafe and the Hub will operate from 12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Carryout meals will be available. 
 
Thursday, Jan. 23, 2025 
The Cafe and the Hub will operate from 11 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.
 
Friday, Jan. 24, 2025
The Cafe and the Hub will resume the regular schedule.
 
All retail locations will open when the university has received the all-clear to resume operations.
 
The Venom Shuttle Service will run as follows:
 
Tuesday - 11:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Wednesday - 12:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Thursday - 11:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Friday - Resume regular schedule

FAMU Announces the Status of Campus Operations for Tuesday and Wednesday Ahead of Winter Weather

In preparation for the winter weather forecast provided by the National Weather Service (NWS), Florida A&M University (FAMU) has outlined the following operational adjustments for Tuesday, Jan. 21, and Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2025. Please note that forecasts are subject to change, and we encourage everyone to remain vigilant to monitor updates from the NWS and local authorities.

In response to the anticipated winter weather, Florida A&M University (FAMU) will operate as follows on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025:

  • FAMU Tallahassee campus will be open on Tuesday until 3 p.m. Classes after 3 p.m. will be held virtually.
  • The FAMU-FSU College of Engineering will remain open through 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 21, unless otherwise noted by Florida State University.
  • The Crestview-Peaden campus will be virtual all day.
  • Main campus food services will close at 6 p.m. The Venom Shuttle will run from 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m..
  • The Educational Research Center for Child Development (ERCCD) will remain open under normal operating hours.
  • Jacksonville, College of Law Orlando, Tampa, Brooksville Farm, and Miami campuses will remain open and operate as normal.

We are also reviewing the impact of the weather forecast on afterschool activities scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 21, at both FAMU and FAMU DRS. Updates regarding these activities will be provided by Monday, January 20, 2025.

FAMU will close the following campuses on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2025:

  • Tallahassee campus, the ERCCD, the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering, FAMU Developmental Research School (DRS), Crestview Peaden Campus, and Quincy Extension Farm will be closed.
  • Food services will transition to brunch hours of 11 am – 6 p.m. The Venom Shuttle will run from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • The FAMU Career Expo will be canceled.
