Retired Major Audrey Alexander is a native of Georgia. She enlisted in the Florida National Guard in January 1989 and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in December 1992, having completed her requirements from the Florida A&M University (FAMU) Army ROTC program and receiving a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from FAMU.

Alexander holds master’s degrees in public administration and adult education, both from FAMU. Alexander attended basic training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and officer advanced training at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. 

Alexander’s assignments included 1035th Medical Detachment, Tallahassee; 708th Maintenance Company, Quincy; State Headquarters, St. Augustine; 257th Transportation Battalion, Gainesville; and 387th TTOE, Tampa

Alexander was deployed with the 743rd Maintenance Company, Fort Lauderdale to Iraq from February 2003 to 2004 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. During her tour, she served as a community outreach coordinator and received the Bronze Star for her implementation and execution of Operation Pencil Box, an Adopt-A-School project.

During her tenure with the military, she held several administrative positions such as maintenance officer, transportation officer, supply officer, team chief, equal opportunity officer, casualty assistance and notification officer, company commander, community outreach coordinator, administrative officer, training officer and investigative officer. 

Alexander retired from the Armed Forces completing 24 years of service. Her awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Army Good Conduct Medal.

For 28 years, Alexander has been employed with the FAMU Department of Campus Safety and Security, where she holds the rank of lieutenant. She has held several operation and administrative positions within the department. 

Alexander is a member of several professional and civic organizations, including the Military Officers Association of America, Women Veteran Unite, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., and Gamma Sigma Sigma National Service Sorority.
