FAMU Tallahassee Campus Closed 12:30 p.m. Tuesday As Hurricane Idalia Approaches

2:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 29, 2023, Update

 

Florida A&M University President Larry Robinson, Ph.D., declared a campus emergency in anticipation of the approach of Hurricane Idalia. Classes and University operations at the Tallahassee main campus, Quincy, and the Viticulture Center are suspended from 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 29, through Friday, September 1. The University will reopen for normal operations on Tuesday, September 5.

Drop/Add dates will be extended. One-Stop-Shop will continue from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 5, in the Grand Ballroom. 

The Hub and the Top Café will remain open until 7 p.m. Tuesday. Meal accommodations will be made for students daily. Residence halls will be open, and students are urged to shelter in place.

The following closures are in effect:

FAMU DRS

FAMU DRS closed at 1 p.m., Tuesday, August 29, and will remain closed on Wednesday, August 30. During that time, all district and school extracurricular and evening activities are suspended. District administrators will decide on the status of Thursday and Friday classes after Idalia has passed through the region. Faculty, parents, and students are asked to monitor the weather at www.famudrs.org. Child Development Center

The Educational Research Center for Child Development (ERCCD) closed at 1. p.m. Tuesday, August 29 and will remain closed for the rest of the week.

Crestview

The Durell Peaden Jr. Rural Pharmacy Education Center in Crestview will remain open until otherwise noted. 

Orlando

The College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences Central Florida Pharmacy Practice sites (Tampa/Orlando) will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday. Clinical Seminar will be canceled. Student pharmacists on rotations are to report to their respective sites as directed by their preceptor.

The College of Law will close the campus at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday and remain closed on Wednesday.All students, faculty and staff must vacate the building.  Any classes impacted during the closure period will be rescheduled for a later date.

A post storm assessment will determine the status of Thursday and Friday College of Law and College of Pharmacy classes.

Brooksville

The Brooksville Agricultural and Environmental Research Station (BAERS) will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday. Staff will reassess the schedule for the remainder of the week after the weather system has left the area.

Jacksonville

The Northeast Florida Pharmacy Practice Center (Jacksonville) will be closed on Wednesday. Clinical Seminar will be canceled. All student pharmacists on rotations are to report to their respective sites as directed by their preceptor. A post storm assessment will determine the status of Thursday and Friday classes.

Davie

The South Florida Pharmacy Practice Center in Davie will continue with normal operations.
