FAMU Tallahassee Campus Reports No Major Damage from Hurricane Idalia

FAMU College of Law in Orlando To Reopen 8 a.m. Thursday

Florida A&M University President Larry Robinson, Ph.D., said there appears to be no major damage or loss of power on the Tallahassee main campus. Fallen limbs and other debris are being cleared by crews Wednesday afternoon. The Office of University Housing reports one downed tree at Rattler Pointe.

The University will continue to assess the situation as the storm proceeds. Wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour were reported at Bragg Memorial Stadium as Hurricane Idalia moved through the region early Wednesday.

Those who sought shelter at the Alfred Lawson Jr. Gymnasium and Multipurpose Center have left the facility.

Classes and University operations are suspended at the Tallahassee main campus, Quincy, and the Viticulture Center through Friday, September 1. The University is scheduled to resume normal operations on Tuesday, September 5.

Drop/Add dates will be extended. One-Stop-Shop will continue from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 5, in the Grand Ballroom. 

The Hub and the Top Café are open 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, and 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.

The following closures are in effect:

FAMU DRS

FAMU DRS is closed on Wednesday, August 30, and Thursday, August 31. All district and school extracurricular and evening activities are suspended. District administrators will decide on the status of Friday classes after Idalia has passed through the region. Faculty, parents, and students are asked to monitor the weather at www.famudrs.org. Child Development Center

The Educational Research Center for Child Development (ERCCD) will remain closed for the rest of the week.

Crestview

The Durell Peaden Jr. Rural Pharmacy Education Center in Crestview will remain open unless otherwise noted. 

Orlando

The College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences Central Florida Pharmacy Practice sites (Tampa/Orlando) are closed Wednesday and Thursday. Clinical Seminar is canceled. Student pharmacists on rotations are to report to their respective sites as directed by their preceptor. A post storm assessment will determine the status of Friday classes.

The College of Law will be re-open at 8 a.m. Thursday. Any classes impacted during the closure period will be rescheduled for a later date.

Brooksville

The Brooksville Agricultural and Environmental Research Station (BAERS) will remain closed Thursday and Friday and reopen for normal operations on Tuesday, Sept.5.

Jacksonville

The Northeast Florida Pharmacy Practice Center (Jacksonville) is closed Wednesday and Thursday. Clinical Seminar will be canceled. All student pharmacists on rotations are to report to their respective sites as directed by their preceptor. A post storm assessment will determine the status of Friday classes.

Davie

The South Florida Pharmacy Practice Center in Davie will continue with normal operations.
