Florida A&M University’s School of Journalism & Graphic Communication (SJGC) will hold its annual Grads Are Back Colloquium Thursday, featuring new Dean Mira Lowe and ABC News President Kim Godwin as keynote speakers.
The Colloquium, to be held at 11 a.m. Thursday Oct. 28 in the Charles Winter Wood Theatre,
is part of a full day of SJGC events that will allow students to meet and learn from alumni and industry professionals.
Lowe assumed the dean’s role on Oct. 22 after serving as assistant dean for student experiences and director of the Innovation News Center (INC) at the University of Florida. An SJGC graduate, Godwin was a senior vice president for CBS News before joining ABC. She also serves on the SJGC Board of Visitors.
Both Lowe and Godwin have extensive experience in academic and professional journalism and have worked throughout their careers to shine a light of opportunity on women and people of color in the industry.
This discussion between Lowe and Godwin is a must-see event for undergraduate students and alumni alike, as they explore opportunities for Black journalists not only within the current media landscape but also in years to come.
After the Colloquium, SJGC will hold a barbecue where faculty, staff, students, and alumni can meet and greet Dean Lowe.
