DIR at FAMU: Steve Hubler
The U.S. Department of State has selected senior American diplomat Steve Hubler as Diplomat in Residence (DIR) for the Southeast region (covering northern FL, southern AL and southern GA). Steve is based at FAMU, with an office in the School of Business and Industry.
Steve is a Senior Foreign Service Officer with 27 years of experience working for the State Department abroad and in Washington DC. He recently served in Vienna, Austria, as Acting Deputy Chief of Mission and Political-Economic Counselor at the U.S. Embassy.
Other assignments have included stints as senior humanitarian coordinator at U.S. embassies in Iraq and Ethiopia (covering the Horn of Africa); service as Consul General in Germany; a tour as Deputy Principal Officer of the US Consulate General in St. Petersburg, Russia; and a four-year assignment as Political-Economic Section Chief in Macedonia. He also has served in Washington DC in the State Department Operations Center, and in the Bureaus of Political-Military Affairs and Western Hemisphere Affairs. Steve’s first two tours as a Foreign Service Officer were in Frankfurt and in San Jose, Costa Rica. His languages are German, Spanish, Macedonian, and Russian.
Steve is a former U.S. Army officer. He holds BA and MA degrees in international relations from the University of Southern California.
